A Certain Thing!

When you come to a new place, certain things will stand out. Some will even challenge you (like arriving during the height of Covid). I arrived at King of Kings in July of 2020. Already then, however, I found my “certain thing.” King of Kings. It's right in the name. What does that even mean? To get to the point, how is Jesus King of Kings?

Simply put, because he did it all. Let me explain.

King of Kings reminds people (no matter who they are, or where they come from, or what they’ve done): Jesus died for all. Jesus died for you. It is truly a gift of God’s grace alone that he would give up the life of his own Son for us all. More than that, Jesus rose again, the only one ever to face death and conquer it.

The Bible is clear. We see it clearly in our lives. Things are not right. Things are not right in this world, this country, this community, and even in our homes. Things are not right between us and God. Things are not right even between us and each other. Things are not right even in our own view of ourselves very often. All this is the result of sin.

Yet grace alone teaches us that from beginning to end, King Jesus did it all… He made you. He died for you. Through God-given faith, he saves you and reunites you with God. Through God-given faith, he will take you to eternal life in heaven, a home free of all troubles with God.

Grace alone, then, must also mean he is with you and cares for you today as well. When you’re facing life’s toughest challenges, it’s good to have something, or better yet, someone to hang on to. This is Jesus, a different King, the King of kings.

When I am afraid, he is my peace.
When I am dark, he is my light.
When I am sin, he is my forgiveness.
When I am guilty, he is my redemption.
When I am confused, he is my truth.
When I am depressed, he is my joy.
When I am weak, he is my strength.
When I am dead, he is my life.

He did it all and he does it all. Come, see what God’s grace alone at King of Kings means for you. I look forward to meeting you!
